Hear from Dr. Ilkay Altintaş, the Chief Data Science Officer from the San Diego Supercomputer Center at the University of California San Diego share how they are working closely with SDG&E on using data, analytics and modeling to mitigate and regulate wildfire risk. She will share case studies involving use of data in utility wildfire mitigation strategies include tree hazard analysis and prediction, weather and vegetation risk modeling, and grid infrastructure failure modeling. Dr. Altintaş with explain how although artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities hold great potential to aid utilities in analyzing risk, there are important challenges that must be solved to take advantage of AI at scale. This presentation will summarize the challenges facing utilities in leveraging data and AI and will provide an overview of the WIFIRE Commons environment, which powers data-driven solutions for utilities through streamlining data and AI pipelines.
