Richard is a Principal Machine Learning Engineer at National Grid within the Chief Data Office team. Coming from a software engineering background with over a decade of experience at startups, scale-ups and enterprise companies leading hands-on delivery of innovative solutions, Richard joined National Grid in May 2023. Having previously founded a Generative Artificial Intelligence startup, he started working closely with the National Grid data science team to deliver in-house solutions leveraging Large Language Models to derive insights and enhance efficiency at a company leading the energy transition and serving millions in the US and UK.

Richard is the founder of JavaScript London, a community meetup group with a membership of over four thousand developers, and he is a frequent conference/event speaker on topics ranging from front-end engineering to GenAI architectures. Richard lives in London, enjoys tennis and language learning, and is an aspiring pilot in his spare time.
