Witness the interoperability of grid-edge devices and behind-the-meter technologies, and see how ComEd envisions a future where labs are integrated into a smart utility platform, fostering the exchange of ideas and connecting customers to multiple energy solutions. During this tour, you'll visit 4 of ComEd's laboratories: 

• Grid Integration and Technology (GrIT) Lab, where emerging technology solutions are tested in a simulated environment.
  The GrIT lab enables the research, testing, and development of emerging technology solutions/equipment/applications in a real time simulated environment to validate functionality and proof of concept. The GrIT lab operates in a controlled environment with no adverse impact to the grid and our customers.
   
• Maywood Outdoor Advanced Testbed (MOAT), a microgrid-based environment for validating technology performance.
  MOAT is a standalone microgrid-based testbed. The testbed provides a controlled environment for testing and validating the performance, characteristics, and interactions of different technologies within a microgrid environment.
   
• Failure Analysis (Forensics) Lab to learn about failure analysis of defective equipment.
  Distribution Standards Material SMES perform failure analysis on failed or defective equipment through inspections, testing, and analyzing data to identify reasons for failure and contributing factors. Learnings are incorporated into our specifications, trainings, and partnerships with vendors.
   
• AMI/DA Lab to see how innovative methods enhance and maintain the AMI Network and Smart City solutions.
  The AMI Smart City Lab simulates real-world conditions to leverage innovative methods for monitoring, enhancing, and maintaining the health of the AMI Network. Key roles include RF remediation, which addresses radio frequency issues on the communication mesh network, and meter testing and certification to validate new equipment, programs, and firmware. The lab also focuses on the innovation of new metering technologies and explores Smart City solutions, such as Smart Street Lights and Smart Water Meters, ensuring their seamless integration with the AMI network.
