In the face of multiple transformations and disruptions—ranging from climate change and distributed generation to evolving business models—utilities are leveraging advanced analytics to modernize infrastructure and transition to clean energy. The federal government, recognizing these pivotal needs, has ramped up its support through policy and market transformation regulations such as the Inflation Reduction Act and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This keynote will explore how federal funding awards such as the Home Energy Rebates, Building Energy Codes, Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) Program, among others, are enhancing energy efficiency, electrification, and grid resiliency against growing threats of extreme weather events and climate change. In this talk, I will discuss the successes and challenges of these funding programs, showcasing case studies where federal funding has driven significant innovations in utility operations and management.
