Topic #1: Maximizing the Use of Interval Data
Duke Energy receives 1 Billion rows of usage data every 30 hours across our 8 million meters. To make use of this data we were able to modernize our load research team by implementing big data technology and building a culture of innovation. We built capabilities to understand how segments of customers are using energy, how it impacts our grid, and how different factors impact load such as EE/DR and EVs. By better understanding our customers we are able to bring a data driven approach to better understanding and serving our customers.

Session Takeaways:

  • Load Research teams can be modernized to really take advantage of the large amounts of interval data that is now available
  • Top use cases include understanding segments of customers such as vulnerable customers, grid readiness, support of EE/DR, and understanding trends in large customers and industries such as AI data centers
  • Modernization takes a vision, technology, and a culture of innovation
